The Holy Spirit also waits for you to invite him into your life. After you’ve invited Jesus, invite the Holy Spirit into your life every day to continually be filled with the Holy Spirit.
In the same way, evil spirits are also waiting for your invitation. You must be on your guard and resist them at all times. You must constantly fight by allowing Jesus and the Holy Spirit to fight for you.
Remember, all spirits must be invited so pay close attention to what you do. Demons are cunning and will seize any moment as an invitation even if you don’t realize it. Therefore, continually invite holiness into your life so there will be no room for evil.

So we’re in the midst of a sermon series: “No Demons Allowed.” We don’t want any demons in our lives. Today, we are talking about how Spirits must be invited. Demons are around you all the time.
Seriously, they’re next to you, they’re beside you, and when you fall into sin, they are right next to you. Sometimes they may be holding your hand, metaphorically. They may be leading you somewhere.
They’re always trying to attack you, and make no mistake: they are out to get you every single minute of every single day. So, how do you keep them at bay? How do you keep them away from you? Stay in the Word. Pray to God. Pray in the Spirit at all times, on all occasions.
Like Paul says, “Why? Why is it so important to be filled with the Holy Spirit?” To pray in the Spirit, to operate in your spiritual gifts, to read your Bible, to be talking to God, to be like Jesus.
Because the more you are like Jesus, guess what? The demons fear Him. The demons shudder. Remember, “Even the demons believe and shudder,” says James. The demons don’t like Jesus, and so if you are more like Jesus, when they look at you, what are they seeing?
They’re seeing, “Oh, this person is holy,” or “This person is like Jesus. We don’t like that. We will get away.” Because they are afraid of the power within you.
That same power is within us, so if you start acting in sin or if you give in to temptation, you are becoming more like them. You are becoming more like the demons, and guess what? That’s what they want. Don’t give them what they want. When you do that, you are inviting them into your life.
Because spirits must be invited, and you do not want to invite them in. How do you invite them in? You give in to temptation. You give in to sin. You listen to their prodding instead of the prodding of the Holy Spirit. What do you think that is in your head? “Oh, it’s my conscience.”
Where do you think you’re getting that? You have a little devil and a little angel on your shoulder, talking to you. Well, if so, if that works for you, then guess what? Listen to that angel.
Let your conscience be your guide.
No, let God be your guide, but if you’re going to be guided by your conscience, at least be guided toward the right thing, not the wrong. How do you know right from wrong? Really it’s from here.
Read your Bible, and you will understand more about right and wrong than this world will ever tell you. Learn it, because spirits must be invited into your life, and if you’re always doing right, then they will not be invited into your life.
So yes, demons are all around you, and all the time, but if you’re filled with the Spirit, your flame is burning brighter, and they don’t like that heat, so they will get further and further away as your flame grows hotter and hotter. So keep it hot.
We have a sermon: “Be Hot.” You can check it out on our website, or in a card up here. But although demons are always around you, fortunately, angels are around you as well. There’s a story in the Book of Kings we’re going to go to right now: 2 Kings, Verse 6:16.
2 Kings 6:16. I love this verse, and although it really applies to a time of war in this story, we can apply it to this same time of war because make no mistake, our war is not against flesh and blood. So 2 Kings 6:16 “‘Don’t be afraid,’ the prophet answered. ‘Those that are with us are more than those who are with them.’”
This story is about an army around, and the prophet is is saying he can see all all these angels around them, and so then later he prays to open the eyes of those around, and then the Lord opened His servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills filled with horses and chariots of fire, all around Elisha. So guess what? What’s happened here? Well, this is a war against the Armenians, and Elisha is trapping them.
And as they eventually go to their own destruction. But this can be applied in our time as well. How? Those who are with us are more than those who are against us. Yes, demons are all around, but guess what?
Angels are as well. And if you could see it, you might have your eyes opened, and you would be terrified of maybe the 10 demons that might be around you. But then, if you look a little further, you might see 50 or 100 angels beyond those demons.
Those angels are there waiting, and when you make that right choice, when you turn up the pilot light of your Holy Spirit inside you, guess what happens? It gets brighter. Those angels are drawn like moths to a flame.
They come into your defense, and those demons flee, and guess what happens? One’s fleeing, one’s coming, Bam! Impact. And the angel wins. Now, of course, this is an analogy. Does it really happen? I don’t know. I haven’t seen it.
But guess what? It’s great, because when you turn up that fire, those angels come, and the, those demons flee, and when that happens? You have victory.
Angels are next to you, and they are more powerful than the demons. They are protecting you from the demons. They will protect you all the time. Let’s go to Psalms 91:11.
Psalms 91:11 says, “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” It doesn’t get more simple than that. Who’s He? God. He’s going to command His angels concerning you, concerning me, concerning every single person who believes in Jesus Christ.
He will command his angels. And what will happen? You will, will be guarded in all your ways. If you keep reading, you get some excellent, excellent points. They will lift you up on their hands. You will not strike your foot against the stone. There’s all kinds of things, keep reading on your own time later on.
Come back to this and read this Psalm. It’s excellent. “God will command his angels concerning you, and they will guard you and protect you.” The demons can do nothing to you unless you let them. Spirits must be invited.
Now this kind of goes both ways, exactly as spirits of demons must be invited, or the demon spirits must be invited. So too does the Holy Spirit must be invited. You have to invite the Holy Spirit in you. Yes, when you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, He comes in you.
You get the Holy Spirit, but you’ve got to ask for that baptism of the Holy Spirit. These spirits need your permission. These spirits must be invited. They need your invitation, good and evil. Why do you think Jesus stands at the door knocking?
Let’s go to Revelations 3:20, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Jesus is there knocking. He wants to come into your life.
The demons are there with a battering ram, trying to bulldoze that door down. They’re trying to trick you. They’re trying to get in, and every single one they’re trying to climb through the windows. They’re coming down the chimney. They are doing everything they can to get in your life.
Jesus is there knocking. Who are you going to listen to? The loud cries of this world or the still silent voice of the Holy Spirit? It’s tough, but guess what? Wide is the road that leads to destruction, and narrow is the path that you need to follow. Jesus is there, knocking. Let Him in.
Spirits must be invited, and you need to invite Jesus into your life, and you need to invite the Holy Spirit, to turn up that flame so you will be on fire for Christ at all times. Jesus must be invited. Demons must be invited.
You do not want to invite the demons, but the way that demons come in is sneaky. They don’t stand at the door and knock next to Jesus, and when you open the door, you don’t get to just choose, “Oh yeah, you come in, you stay out.”
It’s not like picking teams. The demons will trick you. They’re cunning and conniving, and you may be inviting them into your life without even knowing it. What do I mean by that? Let’s go to 1 Peter, 1 Peter 5:8.
1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” He’s prowling, and his demons are doing the same, and they’re all around, and they are looking for someone to devour. Who are they going to try to devour?
Oh, the people who aren’t Christians? No, they’ve already got them. They’re sitting on the bench on their sideline. They’re going to devour you. Why? Because you’re filled with Jesus. They want to take you from Jesus.
They want you to stop worshiping Jesus, and they want you to start worshiping them, but you’re not going to do it. Spirits must be invited, and you’re not inviting them in. You’re closing that door, booting them out, because the more you are like Jesus, the further they will get from you. So even though they’re prowling around like a roaring lion trying to devour you, don’t let them.
How are they invited into your life? They’re invited in through your pleasures, and any activity that you see that would be very enjoyable, but that you know is sinful. This could be something as simple as gluttony for some people.
Maybe you’re eating and you’re like, “Alright, I’ve had two helpings. There’s a little bit left on the plate or on the tray, or at the stove. Rather than putting it in the fridge and heating it up again later, I’ll just eat it.”
Pretty soon, you’re giving in and you’re eating more and more food. Yes, it’s a very basic example, but it’s gluttony. You’re not saying “No.”
That demon is going to be invited in, and they will use that doorway to try to get you to say “Yes” to more, to try to get you to go down other roads. Maybe then it turns from food to drugs, or to drinking, or to something else. Or who knows what?
To some, time on the computer that you say, “I’ll just do this once,” and then pretty soon it’s again and again and again, and now it’s no good. Maybe it’s visiting escorts, or who knows? It could go down roads you can’t even imagine, because they are filled with trickery and deceit.
How do you keep them at bay? Fear God. Shun evil. That’s it. Have that awe of God. He has power. That power is within you. Let that power shine brightly, let your light shine.
These spirits must be invited, so if you don’t invite them in, guess what? They stay out. You can unknowingly invite them in. That’s not good, so when they’re trying to lead you into something that you know is wrong, recognize that your battle is not against flesh and blood.
So when they entice you with temptation, you see this activity will be very enjoyable, you like it, you’re like this, it’s going to be a lot of fun.
You might know it’s wrong. “This is going to be a lot of fun.” “I need this.” “I deserve this.” You justify it. You say, “It’s only once,” or “It’ll be so great,” or “I really enjoy it,” or whatever. “No one’s in the house, I’m all alone, no one will know.” All of these justifications that you may be thinking are demons speaking to you, trying to get you to give in and invite them into your life.
Don’t do it. But if you do, then bam! They pounce like a roaring lion. They devour you instantly. Then later you might feel guilty or shameful, that’s them pushing it on you, telling you you’re no good and worthless, because that’s who they are. They want to get you to trip up, and they want to throw it back in your face. Why? Because they’re evil, pure evil.
You can’t even understand how evil they are. They will hit you when you’re down. They will trip you to get you down. They will keep you down and keep beating you, and they will call other people to beat you.
They will humiliate you in ways you can’t even imagine, and they will get you to do it all on your own, even. They are so bad. They are looking for someone to devour. Do not let them in. These spirits must be invited. Do not invite them. Let’s go to John. John 8:44.
John 8:44 says, “You belong to your father the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
That’s what the devil is. He is a liar and the father of lies, and when he lies, it is his native language. Exactly like your native language is, whatever. Mine is English. Yours could be English as well, probably, but exactly like you speak your native language, the devil speaks lies.
He doesn’t even know Truth. Yes, he knows Truth, he just chooses not to use it, or he’ll use it in a twisted way. And even when he uses it, he’s using it to deceive. It’s like sometimes you could use English words to hurt someone, or you could use them to build someone up.
The devil is always using deceit to hurt. Even if he’s using the truth, he’s using it in a deceitful way. He could be quoting Scripture, trying to deceive exactly like he did with Jesus.
He was telling Jesus Scripture to try to get Jesus to slip up and to fall into sin. He was using deceitful methods, even though he was speaking True Gospel. True Scripture.
Interesting, isn’t it? So make no mistake, these spirits must be invited, and Satan is always trying to get in. So you need to be very careful what you’re listening to, who you’re listening to, because it could sound awfully true, awfully good.
It could be very justifiable, but if you don’t have the right discernment, if you’re not in the Word daily, if you’re not always praying to God, communicating with Him in the Spirit, if that Holy Spirit is not shining in you, you could be led away. Recognize it. It’s very, very important.
Let’s go to Ephesians, Verse 8, Ephesians 5:8. Ephesians 5:8 says, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light. In the Lord, live as children of the light.” You gotta live as children of the light, let that light shine within you. Why?
Why do you need to let it shine? Because it’s in you. Let that light shine brightly. Demons don’t like it, they will get away. If you invite those demons in. You have given them a foothold in your life. You can’t do that.
Let’s go to Ephesians, Verse 4:27, “Do not give the devil a foothold.” Bam! Very simple. That’s it. Do not give him a foothold. How do you give him a foothold? By inviting the spirits by doing things.
If you do do these things that are sinful and against God, if you get led astray, you’re inviting them in. These Spirits must be invited, so every single day, what do you need to do when you wake up? How can you invite the Holy Spirit, not these bad spirits, every morning when you wake up?
“Lord, fill me with your Holy Spirit.” Yes, you already have it in you, but if every single day you’re asking for more, and if throughout the day you say, “God, please give me the Holy Spirit. God fill me with the Holy Spirit. Jesus, I invite you in. Holy Spirit, come into my life.”
If every day all throughout the day, even though you’re already a believer, if you keep asking, keep asking, keep inviting, guess what? You’re going to get more.
You can’t have too much of the Holy Spirit. Take a look at the Old Testament. Moses, if there was ever a person in the entire history of time that had too much of the Holy Spirit, might have been Moses.
But even he didn’t have too much, he had so much of the Holy Spirit, so much of the Spirit of God, that he was glowing. He would radiate the power of the Spirit. His light was literally shining.
How cool would that be? If you guys, if all of a sudden I’m, I’m like glowing. You’d be like, “Whoa, what’s going on with this guy? He’s kind of freaky.” He was glowing. He had to wear a veil over himself because he was scaring the people he was trying to minister to.
So he had to cover his face. He wore long sleeves like this, and I don’t know if he covered his hands or what, but he had everything covered. He had to wear a veil over his face because his face was glowing. He was radiating.
He was so full of the Spirit. Let that be your goal, that you could be so full that you would radiate. That your light would literally be shining, oozing out of your pores. That—that light is coming out so every single day.
Be asking for more of the Holy Spirit. Invite the Holy Spirit in time and time again. And whenever you have something happen that you slip up, recognize it, and then ask for forgiveness. Ask God.
“Hey, get rid of that demon out of my life, get it out of here. Help me, and I invite the Holy Spirit in, and continue to pray in the Spirit. Read your Bible. Use the power of Jesus’ name. Remember, “There Is Power In A Name.” We have a sermon on that.
Check it out in a card up here. Continue to learn all you can. We have a lot of sermons on demons and how they attack you, and why they attack you.
And then learn this, study it, understand it, mainly recognize that spirits must be invited, and you need to be inviting the one true Spirit, the Holy Spirit, into your life, so that you can resist the devil, and the devil and his demons will flee from you.
Let’s pray.
Lord, thank you so much for this powerful sermon. I pray that each and every person out there would recognize that spirits must be invited, and that they need to be inviting the right spirits into their life.
Lord, show them that when they have the Holy Spirit within them, that things are so much better, that things are more enjoyable, that life is more fun to live.
Lord, show them the power of the Holy Spirit. Allow them to be baptized completely in the Spirit. Give them the gifts of the Spirit, allow them to operate in the gifts.
Give them the desire to do that, and show them the fruit of their labors. That they would bring more people to you, expanding the kingdom, growing our family of brothers and sisters here on Earth.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Thank you so much for being here. We’re in the midst of a great series called “No Demons Allowed.” Please come back next week. In addition, share this with your friends and family on your social media.
Have a great week, and God bless.
