Imagine what people thought the first time they experienced rain on earth. For decades, they laughed and made fun of Noah as he and his family built the ark, preparing for a flood. Then, one day, the heavens opened up, and it rained as it had never rained before! The water rose and covered the earth, as Noah had warned. The people who had ridiculed him were now begging him to let them into the ark!
What a sight it must have been! The animals walking in as directed, the sky dark and stormy, the rain pelting down. And in the midst of all of it was Noah, standing calmly by the ark, waiting for all those who would listen to him to come aboard. It must have been a terrifying and amazing experience all at the same time. I can only imagine what it would have been like to be there.
This first rain served many purposes and catastrophically changed our world. Of course, it assisted in flooding the earth to reset the population. In addition, it did much more than that. Stay tuned to this sermon series to learn more!

So far we have spoken about how the Earth is young and about 6,000 years old from the time of life on Earth until now. If you don’t believe that, you can check it out, it is in the Bible. You can also watch the sermon that we spoke about.
The next thing we spoke about was “The water in the atmosphere.” There is water, a blanket of water around us and that is what helped shield us from the harmful rays of the sun. We also lived in a hyperoxygen chamber, enabling us to live much longer.
That is why the people in the Old Testament or one of the reasons why they lived so much longer than people of today. It could also account for the large size of dinosaurs or terrible lizards that walked around.
Then last week we spoke about “How dinosaurs and humans existed on the Earth at the same time.” We talked about three of them that are mentioned all over the Bible, “The dragon,” “The leviathan,” and “The behemoth.”
Those are some great creatures, really cool creatures and it is really neat that they are described all over in this great book and that we can see in history also and in the Bible that they correspond and that they existed and how incredible these creatures were. If any of them still exist today, unlikely but they could, you never know.
Today we are talking about the first rain. One other side note is, if you haven’t seen those other messages check them out in a card right up here if you are watching on YouTube. Otherwise, navigate to our YouTube channel and find the playlist that has all of these messages inside it.
You can watch them, you can share them with your friends, and you can help us reach more people through your social media networks. That would be awesome. We thank you for supporting us in that way.
Today we are talking about the “First rain.” What does that mean? Well, everything is a first at some point and one day all of a sudden it started raining for the first time. When was this? We are talking late, late in the Bible, thousands of years, it didn’t rain up until Noah. Noah was the first rain. When was this? How do we know?
Well, let’s dive into it right here. Before the great flood which is the flood of Noah, if you don’t believe in the great flood then you gotta do some more research, a lot of major religions have it in their book, some type of a worldwide flood. The fossil record indicates that many animals died at one time, so the flood is in the Bible which we preach from the Bible.
This is what we believe here at Social Media Ministries and so we are gonna go from there. Before this flood, it never rained on the earth, ever, didn’t rain. Why? The whole water was up in the atmosphere. Any time the land became dry or crops needed water, Cain and Abel you know this is before the flood, Adam and Eve before the flood, anytime the ground needed water God simply opened it up and springs came up and watered the earth.
It is kind of a cool thing to see. We don’t see that today. The only places that we see springs now are lakes, it is spring-fed, so water just starts coming out of the ground and feeds the lake or the pond or whatever it is. Sometimes you can see geysers and like “Old Faithful” it shoots up water or something like that, that could be considered a spring. How do we know this?
Well, let’s go to Genesis 2:5-6, “Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up.” So this is still when God is creating. “For the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work on the ground. But streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.”
Now some people could interpret this, that this was during the time of creation, God didn’t send rain yet so nothing sprouted up, and then right after this, He started sending rain and things started growing. This could be so. If that happened, then the first rain wasn’t at the time of Noah, it would have been earlier.
However this would have been a big rain, the first rain of its kind at the time of Noah. If in fact, it rained before Noah in the ark, it could have been like sun showers or sprinkles, no real torrential downpours and thunderstorms that we know of.
It could have happened, we weren’t alive then, and the Bible doesn’t give us a detailed record. But for this purpose, this is the first rain at the time of Noah, of its kind, or the first real rain. Because what it did was; it drained the water out of the atmosphere.
We are going to keep going from there. Rain didn’t exist. There was no need because God was providing water that sprung up from the ground. Let’s talk a little bit more about what was going on at this time. This is many years when we get to Noah.
God is seeing that people are just wicked, they are not doing what He wanted them to do. They are getting out of control. They are not following Him. They are being disobedient. They are killing each other.
They are engaging in drunkenness, debauchery, and sexual immorality. They are starting to experiment with men and women and women and women and men and animals and women and animals and all this weird stuff that is not what God intended.
So they are doing all of this. They are murdering. They are lying. They are cheating. They are stealing. They are wicked. They are behaving like their father the devil. The devil rules this Earth. We know that because Adam and Eve gave up their dominion of the Earth when satan came and took it from them and so the devil is in charge down here now.
We don’t serve him, we serve God so we are of another Kingdom. We are not of this world and we are here on a special mission behind enemy lines. We are trapped in this body and there it is, “A cell with no doors.” We can’t get out until we die.
We want to die. We want to go to Heaven, but it is more important for us that we stay here to help others. It is not more important for us. It is more important for them that we stay here to help them.
The best thing for us would be to die and go to Heaven, but it is more beneficial for other people if we stay here, so we stay here trapped in this body as long as we can and we want to take care of this body as best we can so that we can stay here longer to help other people.
Now when God saw that allowing people to live for hundreds and hundreds of years gave them so much more time to become corrupt, He said, no no, this is not good, I need to do something about this. What is He going to do? Kill them off? Limiting their years? We are going to talk about that next week, so stay tuned for that.
He decided to do something about it. We are gonna go to Genesis 6:13-14. This is about the flood, the first part about the flood, Verses 13 and 14. One other thing that I want to mention here that happened right before God decided to wipe this out, is there was a big act of disobedience, I may preach on this another time or speak on this another time, but there was a big act of disobedience with the celestial beings or the heavenly hosts.
They in a way rebelled against God. These aren’t angels, they are more heavenly beings, they are other beings and they rebelled against God. They came down to Earth and they had children with the women of the Earth because they saw that the women of Earth were beautiful and they said, all right we got to go down.
You know what happened, they had children “And so the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful and they married any of them they chose and they had children.” Now what did this mean? These were the “Nephilim.”
These heavenly beings came down, had children with women, earthly women, and then what was born to them were the Nephilim, which are the bigger creatures. Some say that it could have been some giants. Nine, ten feet tall people.
They were kind of supernatural. This is where Greek mythology comes from, and the demigods. That all derived from the Bible so it did happen. It happened in the Bible, that is all I am going to say about that right now, but it did happen. You can dive more into that if you want, but it truly did happen.
So what happened with this big rebellion and God was like, this is not good, we have corrupt humans, we have some beings that shouldn’t be on the Earth because they are a mix between the heavenly hosts that I have and the earthly humans and we cannot have that. So God said, “My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal. His days will be 120 years.”
We are going to talk about that later. Verse 4, “The Nephilim were on the Earth in those days and also afterward when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the giants of old, men of renown.” Now we are going to go, that was a little detour of the first part of chapter six.
This is also why God got so frustrated. We are gonna talk more about that later. Maybe I will alter the sermon a little bit if you guys want, for next week. If you want to learn more about the Nephilim comment below and I can add that in next week.
But for now, we are going to go to 6:13-14 where God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people for the earth is filled with violence and because of them I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. So make yourself an ark of cypress wood, make rooms in it, and coat it with pitch inside and out. This is how you are to build it.”
The size of it we are going to talk about that in three weeks so stay tuned for that. God says “I am gonna wipe them out, they are wicked” and why are they wicked? Well because we have got all kinds of creatures running around here, the heroes of old, the disobedient, we just kind of went in on that.
God says, “No, enough is enough, I am wiping them out. Noah, you and your family get on that ark, and build this thing, I am saving you, we are wiping everybody out except eight people, the rest are dying. The righteous would be saved.”
About 100 years later the first rain came upon the earth. Alright, this is Genesis 7:11-12, “In the 600th year of Noah’s life.” Let me pause right here. Noah was 500 years old when he started building the ark. Took him about 100 years to complete this. He would have been 600 years old when the flood came, 100 years later.
Nowadays we don’t even live that long, people who are 70 or 80 are falling apart, and they can barely swing a hammer. This guy was 500 when he started to build it all by hand, with no power tools. Okay took him 100 years then the flood came and he still lived for quite a while after that by the way.
People lived a lot longer back then, remember we talked about that. Why? Hyperoxygen chamber. Afterward, they were contended. God limited them to 120 years. We are going to talk more about that next week.
Let’s continue, “In the 600th year of Noah’s life, on the seventh day of the second month, on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth.” All the springs in the ground opened up, water started gushing out like crazy. “And the floodgates of the heavens were opened and rain fell on the earth for 40 days and 40 nights.”
What were the floodgates of heaven? Well, this is in Genesis. There are a few references in the Bible to the floodgates of heaven. We have spoken about one before and that was when we talked about “Tithing and Giving.” That was in Malachi so much later after the flood of Noah. The floodgates of heaven were opened at this time and water poured out of the skies.
The floodgates of heaven would have been that water chamber in the atmosphere. Then later we talked about it before in Malachi when God said, “Test me in this and I will open up the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing upon you that there will not be room enough to store it.” Some people say, “Well that means rain and it is coming down so that crops will grow and your barns will overfill.” You won’t have room to store it.
However yes, that is an analogy to the floodgates of heaven mentioned right here in Genesis, when water poured out. The reason that analogy was used is that people in the Old Testament would have known about Noah and the first time rain came down and how incredible it was that the floodgates of heaven were just opened.
Imagine this big blanket of water or like a water balloon but with water on the outside and then you poke the hole on the inside all over and this water just collapses in on the earth. Just truly, truly, an incredible amount of water coming down.
So when the floodgates of heaven were mentioned later people knew that is what it meant. It was that incredible. So when they say “God is telling them I will open up the floodgates of heaven for you,” it doesn’t necessarily mean that we are going to drown you all in rain, it means that that is how much blessing is going to come upon you for doing this.
Not necessarily a bunch of water, but blessings. Whether it is crops or in today’s society and world your job or your life or your family, whatever it is. It is an analogy of reference to this time when the floodgates of heaven were opened for the first time and rain poured down on the earth. This was that water in the atmosphere.
Now hopefully you have already seen those, but if you haven’t we will put a card right up here if you are watching on YouTube so that you can see that sermon about “The water in the atmosphere.”
What are we getting at here? God wiped them all out and saved eight people. Why did He do this? Because Noah was righteous, Noah and his family were good. They were the only good ones on the earth. God has done this before. Humans are wicked, humans are bad. Why? Because our father the devil rules the Earth.
Why do I say that? We are children of God. Yes, we are, we are children of God if we choose to follow Him. Otherwise, we are naturally born into this sinful wicked world and if we sin and do wickedness we are mimicking the ruler of this world who becomes our father the devil and we don’t want that. So we need to do better.
God has wiped out humanity many times, not all of humanity, but you look at Sodom and Gomorrah and God was telling Abraham those towns are wicked, they are horrible. What were they doing?
Well, we have examples in the Bible, sexual immorality, they were killing people, lying, cheating, stealing, experimenting with men and men and women and women and animals and all this kind of weird stuff.
That is not what God intended and so He says “I am wiping them out” and Abraham says, “Well wait a minute, what if there are some good people there and then they go back and forth? Okay for 100 people, I want 50 people, okay 10 people,” this, this, this, and so then God finds Lot and his family and says, “All right those are the only righteous people in that whole town, get them out of there.”
Then they are running away and that is when Lot’s wife looks back and turns into a pillar of salt because she wasn’t supposed to look back. Then we went from four people leaving to Lot and his two daughters. We are going to talk about that way later, but it is something.
So God wiped out the wickedness there and saved the righteous, just like He did with wiping out the whole world and saving the righteous. He took all the good animals and saved them because God sent no other animals and then He saved Noah and his family.
With Moses, this was after the Israelites left Egypt. God was like, “These Israelites are always complaining and grumbling against me, they are grumbling against you, I am going to wipe them out because I am done with them.” Moses is like, “No wait a minute, you can’t do that. Well, then what will people say? You brought them out of Egypt with a mighty hand just to die in the wilderness.”
God says, “Don’t worry, I will start over a brand new line with you. You are righteous, I will save you, you will have a new line of people and you will be my people and I will start over.” Moses is like, “No we can’t, we going to keep with the Israelites,” and God’s like, “All right fine but they are wicked, they are no good Moses.”
I know but we are going to try to make them good and they go back and forth and everything comes out. Bottom line. Humanity. People as a whole. We are dumb sheep and we follow whoever wants to lead, whether that is good or bad.
Without proper guidance, we are all wicked and we become wicked in the world or the town or the city or the nation becomes horrible and God doesn’t want that. We know He doesn’t want it. He wants to destroy it.
What does that mean for you? It means you need to be better. You need to be like Noah, like Abraham, like Moses, like Jesus. Be holy, be good, and try to lead people into righteousness. Don’t follow the ways of this world. Follow the ways of God and be holy.
This whole message is about the period of Noah and the first rain falling on Earth, but it is not simply a history lesson. We are taking more from this and it is that God wiped out humanity because they were wicked and He spared the righteous.
If today God looked at America and said, “This is horrible, I am wiping them out.” Is He going to spare you? I hope so and you probably hope so too. Make sure that He would. Be righteous, don’t be self-righteous, but help other people, lead them. Share this kind of stuff with others. Inspire them to be better.
If you don’t have that personal relationship with God or with His son Jesus, you can. It is very easy. Simply pray to Jesus. Ask Him to forgive your sins. Tell Him you want Him to lead your life.
You trust in Him to take control of your life and lead you wherever He wants you to go. You will no longer live for yourself. You will no longer live in this world. You want to be part of this other world, the Heavenly world.
We are not of this world, you can join in on that and become a believer in Jesus. Believe that He died for you, He became the sacrifice for your sins so you can go to Heaven. That is the only way to Heaven, that is to believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.
Let’s pray. Lord Jesus thank you so much for this message and how we can tie it together and the analogy and everything like that. Lord thank you for tolerating us here on Earth. As far as we know you haven’t wiped us all out in a very long time.
Yes of course we have had wars and probably purged groups of people or nations or maybe even viruses and plagues that have come upon the land to kill off wicked people. Lord, we ask that your will be done.
And that in the case of any time of disease or viruses or famines or trials or natural disasters on the land, you really would just wipe out the wicked and spare the righteous so that the Earth could be renewed and reborn and nations can be rebuilt without the hindrances of the wicked.
I ask that each person watching be inspired to become like you, to be more like you, and to help others become more like you. That they would share the Gospel, that they would share these words, and that they would join the body of Christ and help the Kingdom grow. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Thanks for giving us your time today. I hope that you found this message very interesting and inspiring and that if you haven’t watched the rest of the messages in this series you will go back and watch them and that you will keep watching because we have got a few more left. So stay tuned for that. God bless.
