You can find it in a card up here if you’re watching on YouTube. It’ll be there. Otherwise, go to our website, “socialmediamministries.com,” and you can find it there by searching.
Or if you’re on a podcast, wherever you’re listening, watching, whatever, just scroll back up in your feed — you’ll see them there. Very easy to find this series, “No Demons Allowed.”
Today, we are talking about the power of Jesus’ name. There is power in a name, make no mistake, and the power in the name of Jesus is the most powerful.
Now, of course, you can use the name of Yahweh, but really, it is the name of Jesus that we use as Christians. That is what we use to fight our battles. Jesus came to Earth and gave us that power, through the Holy Spirit in the name of the Father.
So, we have the authority of the Father. The power of Jesus’ name through the Holy Spirit — that is our means. Lots of kinds of confusing things, people use them interchangeably. You can do that as well, but today we are specifically talking about the power that you have through the name of Jesus, or through Jesus himself.
So you have to understand that power. Jesus is God, alright. There’s God the Father, then there’s Jesus the Son of God. He is also God, yes. If you’re new, if you’re new to Christianity, if you’re new to the faith, that can be a little confusing.
You can say, “Wait a minute, how can God have a son, and that son also be God? If there’s only one God, wouldn’t that be two? They are two but one. Oh my goodness, very confusing.” And then you add the Holy Spirit, and you’re like, “Whoa, wait a minute, now it’s three in one.” Water, ice, and snow — three different methods. All still water.
It could be tough, it could be tough to wrap your head around. The simplest, what a great explanation is, God is the Father. Jesus is the Son, and yes, there is the Holy Spirit. They are manifestations of One.
So it’s a different form that they take. The Holy Spirit is here on Earth. Now Jesus was on Earth, but is in Heaven, seated at the right hand of God, the presence of the Father. It’s a manifestation of — it’s a form. Jesus was the form here on Earth.
The Holy Spirit is what’s here on Earth now, with us, through Jesus. God remains in Heaven, or the presence of God remains in Heaven. So Jesus is God, and therefore, the most powerful being in the universe. Let’s open up the Bible right now. We’re going to go to Psalms 147:5.
Psalms 147:5 says, “Great is our Lord, and mighty in power. His understanding has no limit.” No limit! Unlimited! Unlimited power. Great Is our God. Great might, power, no limit, right there.
That should tell you that over the past weeks, as we’ve gone through these “No Demons Allowed,” and not giving them a foothold in your life, and if something happens, and you accidentally let a demon in, or you open the door, you have unlimited power with you, through the power of Jesus’ name.
It is with you, so use His name when you’re in trouble and you need help. How do you use His name, or how do you know you can use His name?
Let’s go to Psalms 50, Verse 15. “Call upon me in the day of trouble and I will deliver you, and you will honor me.” Who’s talking? Well, take some time. Read the rest of Psalm 50, and you’ll understand.
But briefly, I’m going to tell you, this is God, Yahweh, the Father, is talking. He’s saying, “When you are in trouble, when things happen in your life that you don’t know what to do, that you say, ‘This is overwhelming.’”
It could be something major — kidnappings, trauma, things like that. It’s overwhelming. It could be something else that may not be as major as that, but it’s still major in your life. Work crisis, health issue, financial problems.
It could be anything — from large, like you made a bad decision and lost some money, or it could be something as big as, like, you’re losing your house — anything. Nothing is too insignificant, or is too significant for God.
So, whatever trouble you are having, call on God, and what does it say? He will be there for you. He will deliver you, and then what? You will honor Him. So this is a conditional part — you call upon the name of God.
There is power in Jesus’ name. You call upon that name, He will deliver you through your trouble. That doesn’t mean He’s going to instantly fix the problem.
If you make a bad decision and go into debt, and you can’t pay it, He’s not going to be like, “Well, no problem. I would put whatever thousands of money in your bank account tomorrow, and you’ll fix it. No big deal.”
No, He’s going to give you an opportunity to work and fix whatever bad decision you made. There will be a consequence, whether good or bad. If there is some type of trauma, some type of issue, He’s going to provide you with a means.
So, keep an eye out for that, and know and understand that whatever situation you’re in, you will be able to get out of — through God’s help. He’s not simply just going to snap His fingers and solve it, and get you out of it. You’re going to have to do something to get out of it. Why?
Because then you will grow. You’ll grow through that process, and when it’s done, you will have a story to tell about it. You will have a testimony, then you will use — use that story, that testimony, to bring honor and glory to God.
That’s the key, and if you say, “I don’t get it. I still have problems. I still have trauma. Time and time again, things keep happening.” Maybe you aren’t honoring God after that trauma, so He keeps giving you more troubles so that you will finally figure it out.
That, hey, after God delivers you from something, you need to be going out there, honoring Him by telling others how God got you through that. And then all of a sudden, once you start honoring God, these problems simply start to stop. Why?
Because you’ve learned, and you are now doing what God brought the problem about for you to do. You are serving the purpose of the problem, so to speak — little side note — but you need to honor God. When He delivers you, call on Him. Call on the power of Jesus’ name to deliver you. Why does the name have power?
Well, the Bible tells us. But how do we know in life that names have power? What is the significance of it? Why? Why should you call on Jesus’ name? Why not just say, “Hey God, help me out.” Well, God could mean anything.
If you go to Africa or you go to India or you go to China and you have different religions, and you say “God,” they could be thinking, “What god?”
In the ancient times, if you went to the Greeks or the Romans and you say, “God,” they say, “What god? Neptune, Pluto, Venus, Jupiter, Athena?” This, that, “Shiva, Vishnu?” All these different terms, they could say. “What God? What God are you talking about? Who do you need?”
You talk to Catholics, and they might say, “What saint?” because they believe all these saints are their gods. They pray to these saints for different reasons, so “god” is a loose term. There’s power in a name — that is why you have to use the name.
So, how do we know that this name has power, aside from that point? Have you ever gone somewhere because someone told you to do it, then you went to that place and you said, “So-and-so sent me”?
All of a sudden, the person was more helpful and open to you because you used a name. You were referred there — that person recognized that their friends sent you to them. So now, they’re going to take a little better care of you because the name unlocked the door.
The name helped you. You used a name. You used something that they recognized, and it had power. We have another sermon, more specifically on this topic, called “Power In A Name,” so watch that one.
It goes great with this one, “Power In A Name.” You can check it out in a card or search on our website. But if an ordinary human’s name was able to open up some doors for you here on Earth, think of what Jesus’ name can do for you, both here on Earth and in the spiritual realm.
Because remember that, constantly, you are in a war. This life that you go through day-to-day is not simply a la-de-dah life. This life is something that you are going through, and you are in a battle.
And for those of you who unlock more in your life, you’re living in two worlds. It’s like the movies — the movies have finally figured this out, that there are multiple realities, multiple realms.
Now they’re kind of twisting it and getting it into more obviously cinematic elements, but they’re not wrong. You live in two worlds as believers. I, Spencer Coffman, what am I? This? No, this is the shell. This is the body I inhabit. My name, my identity, my being.
My citizenship is in Heaven, that is, the world from which I am. That is the essence of my being. I am a Heavenly being here on Earth, accomplishing a purpose. What purpose?
To bring more people into the Kingdom. To fight these battles here on Earth and in the spiritual realm. So sometimes it could be confusing. You might get stuck in this world, but you gotta remember, we’re not of this world.
You’re fighting this battle while you walk in the world, so you have two different things going on at the same time. Sometimes it could be confusing, but essentially, you’re living in two dimensions at once, and you need to be able to see and recognize the spiritual and the physical and fight in both.
How do you do that? Power of Jesus’ name. You gotta recognize this. Think of what that can do for you, both here in the physical world and fighting the battles in the spiritual realm.
Let’s go to James. James 2:19 says, “You believe there is one God. Good, even the demons believe that and shudder.” So even the demons believe there is a God. They don’t simply believe, though. Demons know. Demons don’t have beliefs. They have knowledge. Why?
Because they are an existential, a supreme, even a spiritual being. Now they are not beings of pure spirit, because they’ve fallen away — that’s why. Now they’re demons. They are evil. They are so evil and so malevolent, we can’t even describe how evil they are.
As we’ve talked about in this series, these demons are so evil, we don’t even understand. We don’t even grasp the concept. When you look at, at serial killers or at beings of pure evil in today’s world, and you say, “How could someone do that?” Someone couldn’t do that.
Humans cannot be that evil. There’s no way. We do not have the intellectual capacity to think of and orchestrate acts of such evil. You say, “Well, how come it happens?” Because a demon possesses or inhabits or subjugates or whatever term, depending on whatever level they do that to that human.
And the demon acts through that human, making them do things, influencing them to do things. Is it their fault? Yes. The human was willing to go along with the demon.
Exactly like the power of the Holy Spirit, the power of Jesus’ name can influence me to do things, like why am I spending my time preaching to you when I could be laying on a beach somewhere? Or when I could be doing whatever, whatever else I want?
Because I’m influenced by the Holy Spirit, by Jesus. He is driving me to do this. It’s what I want to do. It’s a passion that I have within me to share this book with as many people as possible and reach as many people as possible, and I can only do so much.
So I need your help to share these sermons, to use those tools available to you, to clip and share certain segments and parts, and blast it out there with as many people as you can so that we can reach more people.
Because if we aren’t doing that, if we aren’t fighting this battle like they are, we will lose. And you say, “I didn’t know I was fighting a battle.” That’s why you’re losing. This is a war. It is constant war.
People say, “Spence, why are you so tired all the time at night?” This — that because every single day I’m not only living in the physical realm, my physical body is tiring, but I am fighting a battle for you, and so I am tired. Why?
Because when you’re constantly fighting, you get tired. But guess what? I’m fighting not for me, I’m fighting for you. I, right now, am physically telling you things here on Earth that you can use for your spiritual battle.
I am equipping you in a way you can’t understand, and my spirit is fighting right now. My spiritual side is warding off attacks because they are trying to stop me from giving this to you. Do you understand?
This is like the most valuable information you can have. And this is not just me, this is any pastor, any preacher. This is why you have to pray for your pastors. Pray for your leaders.
Pray for those who are equipping and building the Christian church, the missionaries, because guess what? They are fighting battles on levels that they may not even understand, and they are being attacked in ways that no one may even comprehend.
And so while I’m giving this to you, angels are all around me fighting off the enemy, the demons that are trying to prevent this message from getting to you. They are protecting computer screens around the world.
They are protecting network connections, Wi-Fi capabilities, data connectivity, all around securing those lines of communication so that you can watch and listen to these messages.
Because the power of evil is so great, it will stop at nothing to prevent this from being heard, and the only reason you are able to hear or listen or see is because the power of the Holy Spirit, the power of Jesus’ name, is stronger.
The demons know this, and they shudder. Use it to your advantage. Use the power of Jesus’ name when you are in spiritual warfare, and guess what happens? Demons shudder. They stop. They go away.
They are scared, but if for a second they realize that this Earthly authority that you might have could be false, could be phony, they win. Priests walk into rooms and they are deemed to be men of the cloth, or certain pastors or religious leaders.
But the instant that whatever evil realizes that, “Hey, this person doesn’t truly have the Holy Spirit — they’re just an Earthly figure,” that demon knows that that presence is not with that person — that person loses.
So have the power of the Holy Spirit within you. We’ll get to that in a minute, but you need to use the power of Jesus’ name to command evil, to flee, and guess what? It will be done for you. Why? The Bible says so. John 14:13.
John 14:13 “And I will do whatever you ask in my name so that the father may be glorified in the son.” Here we have bringing honor and glory again. Everything you do needs to bring honor and glory to God, and then He will deliver you from these things.
He will provide you with an opportunity — provide you a means of deliverance. Then it is your job to give the power, the honor, the glory to God, to Jesus, to tell others it’s not me that did this. Some people might say, “Hey, why is such a best-selling author of Christianity so successful?”
And if they start saying “It’s because of me,” or “It’s because of this,” or “Give me more money,” or “Help me do this,” Guess what happens? Down they go.
Why? Because they didn’t attribute the honor and the glory where it needs to go. Praise needs to come to us, but then through us. So if someone says, “Spencer, I love your sermons.”
Guess what? It’s not coming to me. That comes to me, but then if I hold on to that, then guess what? It is immediate. The start of my downfall. It goes against everything I’ve been preaching about. Giving the demons a foothold, that comes to me.
You can give me encouragement, and I really need it, okay?. You give the encouragement to that person, but then what I need to be doing, and it’s a test for me when I receive that, is that needs to be attributed directly to God.
Now, that doesn’t mean that right away I tell you, “Oh yes, it’s all God.” No, you give me that encouragement. I say. “Thank you, but it’s glory to God. It comes through me.”
I am a vessel, exactly like God fills you with the Holy Spirit, that needs to go out because the fruit is not for me to eat. It’s, I’m producing the fruit, but a tree does not consume its own fruit. It comes through me. It needs to go through me to God as well. Same with you.
The Father may be glorified in the Son. That’s what happens. Jesus is telling you that whatever you ask in His name, it will be done for you. Let’s continue on to John 14:14, “You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”
The power of Jesus’ name: ask, and He will do it for you. But you have to believe. You can’t simply say. “Jesus, right now, in the power of your name, turn all the lights off.” Wait a minute, why are these lights still on? Guess what?
I need the lights to give you this message. God’s not going to just shut them off. You have to believe whatever you’re asking for, and there has to be a good reason for God to do it. Not just simply that you do it for your pleasures. We have several sermons on asking God — check them out: “Ask God For The Right Things.”
You have to have the right motives in for what you’re asking. If you’re just going to do it for your pleasure, it’s not going to happen. But if you’re doing it to build the Kingdom, excellent!
But you have to have that Holy Spirit within you. So now we’re coming to this, John 16:24. What is this about? John 16:24 says, “Until now, you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask, and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.”
So this is Jesus talking to the disciples. He says, “Up until this point, you haven’t asked for anything in my name. You haven’t cast out demons in my name. You haven’t healed people in my name. You haven’t done anything in my name.
Now you can do it.” What is the now? What is? What is different? What is changing that they can do this? That we can do this today — this is what changed: Jesus unlocked the power of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is a person that we have access to here on Earth. It is a manifestation. We can get it. How do we know that? Let’s go to Acts 1:8. What does Acts 1:8 say?
Acts 1:8 says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the Earth.” This video literally can go to the ends of the Earth. This podcast, this sermon, can go everywhere.
If people share it, if the power of the Holy Spirit allows this to go out there. Which it will. Why? Because it is in alignment with God’s will. Jesus was telling His disciples, “Until now, you haven’t asked anything in my name.
But then you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will ask in my name.” Why? We will say, “By the power of the Holy Spirit, in the name of Jesus, and by the authority of God the Father, this will be done.”
You can heal people — you can cast out demons. Yes, God doesn’t change, so the things the disciples did then, we can do now. There are still healings today. There are still miracles today. People can be set free from demons.
People can even be raised from the dead. I’m not kidding. There is nothing new under the sun, according to Solomon. We can do all of this today. Why? Because Jesus gave us that power. Fill yourself with the power of the Holy Spirit.
Use the power of Jesus’ name, because you have all authority through the power of Jesus’ name. It’s given to us from God the Father — the same power is given to you. It dwells in us. Make yourself a clean vessel, and let it fill you.
Let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, thank you so much for this great sermon series on “No Demons Allowed.”
I pray that you fill each and every one of these people with the Holy Spirit, that they will be inspired, divinely inspired, to get out there and accomplish their purpose. That — they would know and understand their purpose to share the Word with all creation.
That they would use the easy methods to do that. Social media is huge, that they could take advantage of their influence of their friends, their network, and share these messages with them all the time.
That they would constantly be talking about the Word, be thinking about the Word, meditating on it day and night. Talking about it while they walk along the path, writing it on their doorpost, binding it on their hands and their hearts.
That they would have bracelets and necklaces, and books and things all the time. Scripture always flowing through their lips, that it would come to them and flow through them.
That you would fill them with the power of the Holy Spirit, and that they would use the power of Jesus’ name to command demons. To command healing, exactly like you did, Jesus.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
You can do these things, and if you have any questions or comments, please post below. We’d be happy to help. Have a great week, and God bless.
