As crazy as it sounds, the fact that men have traditionally had short hair is in the Bible. Yes, the length of a person’s hair is discussed. In 1 Corinthians 11:14-15, it is written “Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him? But if a woman has long hair, it is her glory?”

This passage clearly shows that men should have short hair and women should have long hair. Why should we be surprised? After all, the Bible is our ultimate guide for life. It has everything we need to know within its pages.

Furthermore, throughout history and in many cultures around the world today, short hairstyles are associated with masculinity and strength. Think about iconic figures like Bruce Lee or David Beckham – both known for their short hairstyles which add to their overall image of power.

But beyond just cultural norms and religious beliefs, there are practical reasons why men should keep their locks trimmed. Shorter hair requires less maintenance than longer styles which can be time-consuming to wash and style properly. It also keeps your head cooler during hot weather conditions.

So gentlemen, let’s embrace our masculine roots by keeping our tresses tidy! Not only will we look more powerful but we’ll save ourselves some hassle too.

Watch this sermon with an open mind and an open Bible as we dive into the scriptures and what they say about a man’s hair and why men have short hair. Then, consider what the Bible says and apply it to your life!

Today we have a great message, it is about hair. Yes, it is about your hair, as a matter of fact, your hair. How you style it, how you wear it etc is biblical. The Bible has something to say about how you present your hair. Today we are talking about the guys. So for you, ladies out there stay tuned because this is a two-part series about your hair.

Now this sermon, even though it is directed toward the guys, is still for you. Next week they will sit through the same one when it is directed to the ladies, so you will have your turn. But first off we have to start with the men. Next week we will go with the women.

So stay tuned, it is a two-part series. Ladies today still stick with us because it is some important stuff. It is some good education that will help you understand why we come to the conclusions that we will talk about next week when we get to your hair. This is important for both men and women, even though today it is directed to how the men wear their hair.

You say why does it matter how we wear our hair? Well, the trend of men having short hair is biblically based. Now, of course, some guys have long hair and that is okay a lot of these things really whether you have short hair or whether you have long hair it is not an issue of salvation.

Men can have long hair women can have short hair women can have long hair men can have short hair men could have no hair women could have no hair if they wanted they could shave it off and what you do is not going to determine whether or not you will go to heaven.

That has already been determined you will choose whether or not you want to go to heaven the only thing that determines that is Jesus Christ He says “He is the way the truth and the light no one goes to the Father no one gets to heaven except through Him.”

For you to get to heaven you have to believe that Jesus Christ is your Lord and savior that he died for you that he forgives you of your sins and you want to live your life for him so whether you do whatever you want with your hair that is not going to keep you from getting into heaven however it is still in the Bible and so.

If it is in the Bible we should talk about it, we should learn about it, and then you can engage in some discussion in the comments below and decide what you think about it. Because this is a topic that is kind of a fun topic, let it be fun, do not let it be insulting or dismal.

Let it be a fun topic where you get to weigh in with your opinions, be polite, and be respectful though. In addition, once you are going to learn about this now, you can talk about it with other people. See what they think. They probably never heard of it, you have probably never heard of it, but we are going to get in here.

Men having short hair is in the Bible, it is biblically based. Baldness is also in the Bible. We check out a couple of cool stories here. The prophet Elisha was in the Bible of course, and in one particular instance, he is being made fun of. This is kind of a funny story in the Bible.

If you have your Bible please turn it in to me, use your Bible. Go to 2 Kings 2:23-25. All of these will be referenced in the description below. You can come back, and read them at a later time.

“From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road some youths came out of the town and jeered at him. Go on up you baldhead, they said. Go on up you baldhead. He turned around, looked at them, and called down a curse on them in the name of Yahweh. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled 42 of the youths, and he went on to Mount Carmel and from there returned to Samaria.”

Wait a minute, what happened there? Okay, the point of this for today anyway is that baldness is in the Bible. Elisha was bald. 42 or more youths, delinquents started making fun of him about his baldness. Now Elisha was kind of a short little fella. Maybe he was a little stout.

We do not know exactly. He might have even had stunted growth, so he might have looked a little different than everybody else. He might have had some dwarfism happening to him, we do not know exactly.

But he was bald and he was shorter and so people made fun of him. He was very sensitive about the fact and in this instance, at least 42 people were making fun of him. The point is that baldness is in the Bible. But we are going to take this opportunity for a secondary lesson here.

Two lessons, point number one is that if you want the holy spirit you must be ready for it. You have to be careful.

Look at this, Elisha called down a curse in the name of the LORD, and 42 of them were mauled, killed, dead by a couple of bears. 42! That means these two bears, I mean, just went to town, and I am sure after a couple of people get mauled–do you not think the kids run away?

So these bears were chasing them down. This curse was serious business that Elisha called down. So if you ask for the Holy Spirit your words become very very powerful.

If you are driving in the car and someone cuts you off and you react negatively, you could kill them. That is how serious it is. So if you are wondering why you are not filled with the Holy Spirit, why you do not have the power to cast out demons, to touch people and make them see, to make the lame walk, to heal crippled people like Jesus did and the disciples and to prophesy if you are wondering why you do not have that, check your mentality, check your behavior.

You must live in love. Once you are doing that, then you will be able to start having some of this power. But think how powerful that is. He turned around, called on a curse in the name of Yahweh and 42 of them ended up dying by a couple of bears. That is huge.

What is the other lesson here? Well, the other lesson is do not make fun of other people, because by making fun of people, that cost them their lives. So that is pretty serious, words do hurt so you have to be careful of what you say about other people. Not only if you have the Spirit that you say, because you could end up causing some death, but also if you do not.

You have to be careful what you say because you never know what could come upon you by the words you speak. We have talked about that before, the importance of reigning in your tongue. You can check that out on our YouTube channel.

So yes, Elisha was bald, that is in the Bible. Now there is another portion, I am sure a lot of other people in the Bible are bald, but now that is kind of a funny story and an interesting story where it is kind of biblically based.

A little bit more evidence there. We go to Leviticus 13:40-41, “When a man has lost his hair and is bald, he is clean. If he has lost his hair from the front of his scalp and has a bald forehead, he is clean.”

This is at the beginning of the Bible, when God is telling clean and unclean and skinned diseases, mold, mildew, all of these things. This passage is specifically about leprosy, but the point is balding heads are considered clean and so for men to be bald it is a natural state, a God-given state.

Never forget that men, men specifically, are not like mankind or humankind, men because Adam, man, was created. First men were created in the image of God. Genesis 1:27, “So God created man in his image, in the image of God he created him. Male and female created them.”

So the man in His image and that is in the first story of creation, which is second. We have talked about the creation stories, you can check them out in a playlist up here. Also, navigate to our YouTube channel to find that playlist.

In the second creation story, which is the first, it says that God specifically created Adam from the breath of his nostrils, from dirt. He created man first, then He created a helper for him, a woman. We will get more to that next week on where the woman comes from and in whose image she is created.

Continuing, since men are created in the image of God, they do not need to cover their heads. What do we mean by covering their heads? Well if balding men was a form of cleanliness then being clean was. Now of course when Jesus came, He said it is not eating without washing hands that make you clean or unclean, it is the words you speak.

But still, this means that men do not need to cover their heads. They could be bald, they could have their heads showing and it was okay. They do not need a lot of hair as a covering for them.

In addition, you see some religions have to wear hats, specifically Judaism or Jews, they wear little hats or skull caps, and some people incorrectly refer to them. But they wear these little caps to cover their heads, however, the Bible says that they do not need to do that, so I do not know where they are getting that or why they believe they have to cover their heads. Another one of those false perceptions maybe.

We jump up to 1 Corinthians 11:7a, “A man ought not to cover his head since he is the image and glory of God.” Because men are visually similar to God, there is no need to cover up, because there are no differences of which to be ashamed.

Now I use that word but use it lightly because it is for lack of a better term. Men are visually similar to God because God created men in His image. So there is nothing that we have to hide or differentiate from showing that we are different from God.

We are the image and the glory of God, not covering our heads brings glory to God because it demonstrates God’s glory. However, if a man has long hair and covers their head, it is a disgrace. It is a disgrace to them because they are hiding their image of God.

Now you say how do you get here? Where are you getting this? It is not just me, this is biblical. 1 Corinthians 11:14, turn with me, 1 Corinthians 11:14, “Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair it is a disgrace to him?” It is a disgrace to him. If a man has long hair it is a disgrace to him. Okay why, why is it a disgrace?

Well, man was created in the image of God and so a man ought not to cover his head because he is the image and glory of God. So if they start to cover it, they are covering up that image and glory of God. They are further hiding something they should be proud of, they are hiding the image and glory of God.

Perhaps this is why traditional monks shaved their heads. Baldness was a display of not covering, of no covering. Remember God has everything planned down to the slightest detail
Men end up going bald, most men go bald as they age, as they get wisdom so to speak.

Women they do not. Most women keep their hair, sure some women when they get older their hair thins but it is very rare to see a woman go fully bald. Why is this? Because men ought not to cover their heads.

Let’s dive into this a little bit more to see if there is any significance in this or why it could be significant in any case and if is it something that you need to care about. To do that we are going to go to 1 Corinthians, back to 11:3-4. So 1 Corinthians 11:3-4, “Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ and the head of the woman is a man and the head of Christ is God.”

Okay so let’s pause there and break this down. All right, the head of every man is Christ, and the head of woman is man. So we have woman, man, Christ. Then we have the head of Christ being God. God, Christ, man, woman. How does this relate?

Well, men are created in the image of God. Christ is created in the image of God. The only reason Christ is ahead of man is because Christ never sinned. He was perfect so that is why Christ is above man. Right here, He is holy, we are not. We are sinners, we are.

So before Christ, you have God. God created man in the image of Him. Now Christ is holy, so He is right here, but still, Christ looked like a man. He was created in the image of God, exactly like men. Men were created in the image of God, Christ is also in the image of God. A man is not to cover his head because he is showing the glory of God.

Continuing, “Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered, dishonors his head”. Okay so does that mean if I cover my head and pray I am dishonoring my head? What is my head? Well, we just figured this out, the head of every man is Christ. So if I am dishonoring my head, am I dishonoring Christ?

If you pray with your head covered you are dishonoring Christ. Men when you are in church and you look around you see there are people wearing hats, a ball cap, cowboy hat, a stocking cap, and it is time to pray that hat better come off. This is a sign of respect, of reverence.

If that hat stays on during a prayer, prophesying, or really in my opinion even during the service, that is dishonoring Christ. Christ is the head of man and even beyond that, the head of God. So if you keep that hat on during the prayers, during prophecy, you are dishonoring Christ. Take your hat off.

Why does it matter? Well, it is a sign of respect, that is the bottom line. The hat is a sign of respect, taking it off, uncovering, that is a sign of respect, of reverence to God. The head of man is Christ. If you cover your head you are dishonoring Christ. Now how does that relate to hair? Well, we will find out a little bit more about that next week. But our hair covers our head, you can see. You cannot see my scalp because I have got hair here.

Men, it says we are not to cover our heads. Now of course if it is cold outside or you wear a hat for style that is different. This is in the act of worship, you are not to cover your head. Does that mean you need to go into the church and shave your head every time? No, it does not. It just means do not put any covering on your head in addition to your hair.

Men have short hair. Why? Why do we have short hair? “Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair it is a disgrace to him?” 1 Corinthians 11:14. Why is it a disgrace?

Well because it is a big covering and we are not to cover our heads. Our hair is not to be a huge covering for us. Is it that important though? Well again it’s not a salvation issue, men feel free if you want long hair, if you want no hair, if you want medium hair you could do it.

The point is when you go before God, you take off any covering that you have on top of your head. Next week we are going to learn a little bit more about the women and how they should have their hair and I am going to warn you ahead of time, next week is going to be part of the sermon that brings a lot of opinions and it could cause some controversy definitely for two reasons.

Number one, men have always been in history more of the authority figure and so when we talk about men, whether it is negative or positive it is just the way we are. We simply shrug it off. That is just how we are made. Like it is no big deal or we blame something else.

If I insult humanity, if I insulted you by saying you need to take your hat off, you are probably going to be like forget him and you are going to go about your day. Women on the other hand are more nurturing, they are more caring, they are more sensitive and so next week yes I could rub you the wrong way and you might be upset.

If that is you, before lashing out or reaching out or slaughtering someone in the comments, if you read comments down there, before getting all angry, think about it and respond respectfully. You can disagree, that is fine, but be polite, be respectful, and remember the tongue is a fire set by hell. If you become a little bit offended, make sure you are going to respond in a certain way, because like I said it is going to be a little bit controversial.

Now of course with all of the feminist acts and all of the equal rights movements throughout the history of America, it seems that you have to tread very lightly when you are speaking about anything other than men, anything other than white men in particular. If you talk about different colors of people, different races, nationalities, women, anything of minorities.

What is a minority? Well, anything other than the white male I guess. So pretty much if you talk about any of that, someone is going to take offense and that is sad. Come back next week with an open heart and an open mind and know that you are listening to the Bible and you are listening to an interpretation of it that again isn’t a salvation issue but, it’s in there, so it is worth talking about.

Let’s pray. Lord, thank you for this message. Thank you for the instances you put in the Bible to teach us and I pray that they would consider the two main points. Of being ready for your Spirit, being careful of how they act as shown by Elisha, and also about the reverence of covering their head when they are in your presence. That they are not to cover their head when they are in your presence, the men at least.

God, I ask that you would open their hearts and open their minds and that they would come back next week and learn and watch the message and understand where it is coming from. That they would go home, that they would get out their Bibles, that this would light a little fire under them, that would put a thorn in their side, and that they would say what is going on? Why is he even talking about this and that they would be inspired to go read the scripture for themselves?

Talk about it with other people and start formulating their own beliefs about this and those beliefs would be led and directed by you. In Jesus’ name. Amen. Once again, come back next week. We will have the conclusion of the series about your hair. Next week we will be talking about the ladies. So, men that does not give you the right to skip out, you gotta be here because it is a conclusion and it ties very closely with what we talked about today. God bless.
