The Size Of Noah’s Ark Was Massive How Big Was Noahs Ark – Part 7 of 7

Hello and welcome to Social Media Ministries, my name is Spencer Coffman. Thanks so much for tuning in. This is the seventh part of our seven-part sermon series on the “World during the time of Noah.”

So far we have talked about how the Earth is young, less than 6000 years old from the time life began till today. We had water in the atmosphere and that water helped create a hyper-oxygen chamber which allowed humans and animals to live so many 100 years longer than they do today.

That could account for why humans got so old and also why dinosaurs were so large. Then we spoke about how dinosaurs walked on earth with humans and how incredible those creatures were and then again due to that hyper-oxygen chamber that is why they became so big, reptiles never stop growing.

After that, we spoke about the first rain and how the floodgates of heaven were opened, and all that water and the hyper in the atmosphere came crashing down to earth for 40 days and 40 nights.

Then we spoke about how we are limited to 120 years and all that happened around the same time. God says “I can’t contend with the evilness, the wickedness here on earth, I am going to limit them to 120 years. I am going to wipe them all out. Destroy that hyper-oxygen chamber. Noah and your family, you are going to be safe.”

After that, over the last week, we spoke about the animals on the ark. Truly incredible really how many animals were on there. How long Noah and his family were stuck on that ark and what they had to go through, not really what they had to go through, I mean we can only imagine.

But all the food that they brought on, all the animals, all of everything. Think about how big the ark had to be. That is what we are talking about today, “The size of the ark.” Let’s just think about this.

This thing is huge, larger than most ships of today. When you think of this ark you got to think of it like an aircraft carrier or a cruise liner, something like that. Although the ark wasn’t that big, it was very close.

Let’s dive into the Bible here, Genesis 6:15, “Now this is how you are to build it God says to Noah. ‘The ark is to be 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high.’” Now depending on your translation of the Bible and the version, the updatedness that you have.

I just read from the NIV, but the NIV now has been updated. If you have the Bible app, they edit it all the time, they switch words from, “My heart will not contend with man,” now to “Human or mankind to humankind.” You know they update it.

They also change these cubits now to feet, so depending on what you are reading you may have the feet but we are gonna dive through this. What is a cubit? What is the history of the cubit?

Well, a cubit was the length of a man’s arm from his fingertips to his elbow. Right here, this is a cubit. Now for me, this would be probably 20 inches, 22 inches, maybe 24 inches, I should have had a tape measure here to measure it for you. Probably about 20 inches is my cubit.

A normal cubit is about 16 to 18 inches, maybe 20. Mine are like 20. Some other people could be a lot bigger than mine, basketball players have longer arms. So about 18 inches. Therefore 300 cubits, for those of you who are good at math and like math, you are going to love this section. We are going to go through the math.

Then I am going to read you a different version. We are going to compare how our math equals up. So 300 cubits would be 150 yards long. Now how do we get there? 300 cubits times 18 inches is 5,400 inches, 5,400 inches divided by 12 inches per foot would equal 450 feet, and 450 feet divided by three is about 150 yards.

That is how long this was, 150 yards. How long is that? Well, a football field is 100 yards, so that is about one and a half football field. Now if you count the end zone, the end zones are another 10 and 10. So the football field length would then be 120, added up from the back of the end zone up to 120.

You need 30 more yards, so add up to the 20-yard line. I mean either way it is about 150 yards, about one and a half football fields. Now that is how long this thing was. Very very long. Let’s keep going, so if we have 50 cubits wide based on the same math, we got 50 cubits is about 18 inches, of course, multiplied by the same type of deal, so times 12.

All these numbers we would have based on the same mathematical formula, would be 25 yards wide which is about half the width of a football field. I don’t know how wide a football field is, but it could be very similar to the width of a football field.

Thirty cubits high would be 15 yards high, so we have got 30 cubits. You multiply it by 18 for the inches, then you divide by 12, and then we divide by three and then we get the yards. So 15 yards high. What is that 15 yards?

About the height of a three-story building, so taller than your house, most likely. This ark was huge. Let’s take a look at some sizes of some modern-day ships to give you an interpretation. Right now the first thing we are going to do is look at a different translation.

I have an updated one. This is Genesis 6:15. “This is how you are to build it.” We have estimated that the ark is about 150 yards long or 450 feet, so here is a verse with an updated version. If you have this that is great, you are already ahead of us.

“This is how you are to build it. The ark is to be 450 feet long.” Okay, so our math was pretty good based on the 18 inches. If you did it by mine, 20 inches or 22 inches, then the ark would be about 500 to 550 feet long. In turn the width we said was about 25 yards wide or 75 feet.

The verse says 75 feet wide and then 45 feet high, but we said about 15 yards high, 15 yards times three would be about 45 feet high, so we matched right up with this verse in this translation. Depending on yours it could be different, 300 cubits could mathematically be a little different, but the main point is 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high is huge.

I said you can compare it with an aircraft carrier. How big was that? Well, most aircraft carriers, I mean some are massive, some are smaller, but the average size, you can look this up on the internet if you want to get ideas, look at pictures, do all of that.

Look it up, check it out. The aircraft carrier is about 330 yards long. What was our ark? The ark was 150 yards long, so the aircraft carrier is like double. Okay 75 yards wide, we were not that wide, we are only 25 yards wide, so triple, aircraft carrier would be triple.

And 75 yards high, so the aircraft carrier is like three times the size of the ark. Very very large. How about a cruise ship, like a Royal Caribbean or Norwegian? They are different sizes. Some are large, and some are small, but the average size of a cruise ship is about 360 yards long.

So even longer than an aircraft carrier, 50 yards wide so a little smaller, and 75 yards high. We are talking huge, so very very large. These aircraft carriers, these cruise liners were bigger than the ark, but the ark was close.

About half, maybe a third of the size to store up all that food and all those animals. If you look at a cruise ship today you will see how large an ark could have been. It was a little smaller, so a cruise ship today could store all that food, eight people for a year, and all the animals, seven clean and two unclean on that ark.

A boat a ship or a vessel of that size could have very easily fit all of those animals. Do you want to know how many animals are on the ark? We did a video on it, remember we did it last week, if not Check out the card here and you can see that message about all of the animals on the ark. This thing was huge.

Now you want to say, “Okay well these animals, how did they all fit on the ark with this size?” As we spoke about, all of these animals were likely sent by God to Noah, so He sent them to Noah, Noah didn’t go out and find them, God sent them to him.

So God chose the right animals, very likely that they were babies, maybe not infants but toddlers. Let’s say a year or so, it is very possible that they were still being nurtured by their mother’s milk.

So either Noah and his family fed the milk or an adult female animal came on with them and nursed the babies for the year and that is how they not only didn’t eat all of each other but also how they would have been able to fit because they would have been smaller.

They wouldn’t have been so fierce and scary or terrorizing. Let’s say you look at dinosaurs. Some people still don’t believe that dinosaurs walked with humans, even despite all of our biblical references throughout the series and maybe they say, “Well dinosaurs are still too big to fit on the ark.”

The largest dinosaur was the “Long Neck,” if you know the land before time, the Long Neck was a sauropod or brachiosaurus and was about 34 yards long. 34 yards, the ark is 150 yards long, so 34 yards would be nothing to fit the largest dinosaur.

Noah probably didn’t have the big T-rex on there because that thing would have torn the thing apart, but maybe had a baby T-rex or maybe God said He sent all the animals, so all the animals were sent to Noah.

That would include any dinosaurs at the time. I imagine that the dinosaurs were unclean animals and we know that it was two of each unclean animal, a male, and its mate. Chances are very good that the unclean animals if they were the dinosaurs, baby dinosaurs were coming onto the ark, only two of them.

There wouldn’t have been huge terrorizing creatures. And, if then, remember the hyper-oxygen chamber was ruined and a dinosaur is a reptile or lizard, terrible lizard dinosaur. It is a reptile, so if it was brought on the ark as a baby and then the perfect environment was destroyed when it got off of the ark it didn’t live to grow that big because we were limited.

Our age was limited to 120 years and dinosaurs and animals would have been limited as well, and also at that time God said you now have all the animals to eat so that would mean prey/hunter prey/predator would have been happening.

It is very possible that these dinosaurs as they were growing up would have been killed off by mankind, had been killed off by each other, survival of the fittest then really, went crazy and they could have just been wiped out that way as well.

However it happened we don’t know but you can speculate the point is they were there, they were on the ark. This ark was huge. It is an incredible size, so a huge vessel. What is the point of all this? Why are we talking about it?

Well, it is a quick message on the “Size of the ark.” I just wanted you to understand how incredibly huge this was. What is the point? The point is to tie into the previous messages so if you haven’t seen them, watch them.

Otherwise, right now I am going to kind of sum up the whole series and bring it together because the size of the ark is not going to take the whole time. We have just gone over it. It was huge, end of story.

We gave you the dimensions, how big it was, and visualization, and now you understand that these animals even fully grown could have fit on the ark. Now obviously they probably weren’t fully grown on the ark, but they could have fit.

That is how large it was. All of these animals were on the ark with Noah for a year. They had all the food stored up. What is the point? Well, they had great faith that God was going to deliver them through that time.

The Earth changed, and we are now limited to 120 years because the hyper-oxygen chamber was torn apart. All the water came down. The floodgates of heaven were released. Another note on the floodgates of heaven.

It is used later on about this point in time when God says in Malachi “I will open up the floodgates of heaven and pour out so many blessings on you that there would not be room enough to store it.” It was being used as a metaphor or a comparison of, this is how much you will receive if you follow me, you will get this much blessing.

The floodgates of heaven just poured down on Noah and his family. It was also mentioned later on in 2 Kings, with the prophet Elisha and the town was under siege, and he was in there and they were trapped in the city.

This is when a donkey’s head was selling for like 80 shekels of silver because people were starving, they were eating a donkey’s head and he said, in tomorrow’s time this will all be over. We will be back to the normal price. We will have food, everything will be plenty, no problem.

There was a man there who said, “No, that couldn’t even happen even if the floodgates of heaven were opened or if God poured out all the blessings of heaven.” Elisha then said, “All right because of that lack of faith you will not be around to see it.”

So what happened then is some lepers came out and discovered that overnight the enemy camp had gone, they had disappeared. They had thought that some other army was coming to the aid of this city and they all left.

These lepers found all this gold and treasure and they hid it for themselves and they said, wait we can’t do this, we need to go tell the town. So they told the town, “Hey they are gone, everything is there for you, all the food, all the plunder, it is all still there.”

The town rushes out and this guy, this naysayer, gets trampled and killed right there. He was not around to see it, that so much blessing was poured out, it was like the floodgates of heaven. It wasn’t just rain.

It was all of this plunder, this gold, the silver, these items, all this food, everything was given back to them like the floodgates of heaven were opened. So it is referring to this first rain, it doesn’t necessarily mean that rain is coming.

When people refer to the floodgates of heaven that are going to be poured out upon this nation or you or your family if you do this and follow God, it doesn’t necessarily mean you are going to get 40 days and 40 nights of rain.

It means you will receive so many blessings that you will not have room to store it. That is a good point that I want to draw right there. The other one is that we were limited to 120 years because of living here so long man became wicked.

Mankind became wicked. Not just men but women as well. The Bible is filled with wicked women and the books explain how women can be evil just like men can be evil. We have seen that even today, some of the politicians that we have experienced and seen are very evil.

Some of them are women and so we see that and what God is saying is that this world is ruled by the devil. We have talked about this before in other messages. That is very important. We are not of this world.

If you choose to follow Christ which you can do, you invite Him into your heart, ask Him to lead your life, forgive your sins and you become a follower of Christ Jesus. You believe He died for you, He paid for your sins. You can now go to Heaven.

You have been wiped clean, you are going to Heaven. You believe in Jesus. Hallelujah! We are not of this world. We are of a different kingdom and our purpose here is behind enemy lines, satan is our enemy, he rules this world.

We are in enemy territory. We are here to spread and share the Gospel. I said it before, I am going to say it again, it is a very important point. You are here on a mission to share the Gospel.

We were limited to 120 years so that we could not live so long to become so wicked and also because of all of the dinosaurs. God saw that this could not be a fitting environment. I mean if we had dinosaurs today your houses would be trampled.

It is something other than what would work properly in today’s world. God took care of that for us, but He left it here. Why? People say, well God knew everything, God knows everything, He had to have known that man and dinosaurs could not live at peace forever.

Correct, but He gave us dinosaurs to show us illustrations of His power His glory, and how powerful God is. We read the Book of Job and the dinosaurs are described and how great, and majestic they are, but still God is more powerful.

It shows us it is an illustration, just like the floodgates of heaven. God knew it, He gave it to us as an illustration. Remember that people are wicked and that we will not be around forever. Your goal should be to be righteous and holy like Noah and find no blame on you.

Be like Jesus, follow and be led by the Holy Spirit so that you can hopefully live as close to that 120-year mark as possible, sharing and preaching the Gospel and leading others to Christ. During this whole series, we have shown that our Earth is young.

We are still learning. We are still here. These same things repeat themselves. People fall into sin, and God has to correct them. He sends judges, He sends leaders, He sends rulers, He sends kings to lead these people because these people are sheep.

Sheep are stupid, people are stupid, don’t be a stupid sheep. Be like Jesus, be the leader. Do you want to know how to do that? Read the Bible. Comment below, you can do this, we can do this. We can turn this world into a world that follows Christ.

It is not easy and history has shown that it probably won’t last, but we can choose to follow Christ. I hope you make that choice, if you need any help with that please comment below or send us a message and we can help you with that.

It is not a salvation issue in that you need to know exactly what happened to be saved, all you need to do to be saved is believe in Jesus and you will be saved.

Let’s pray. Lord Jesus thank you so much for this sermon series that we have presented here. I ask that people find good in their history and that they take lessons from it and learn from it and use it as a means to introduce themselves to other people.

They need something light-hearted interesting and historical that they can then show other people and use as an entry to speak about salvation and Jesus. How He died for them and that they need to accept Him into their life and repent of their sins.

Thank you so much Lord for that. Thank you for this time together. I ask that you bless every one of those individuals out there. Whatever they are struggling with, help them through it. Inspire them to seek help and guidance and if they have any questions have them not be shy.
