Join us for this 2-week sermon series about trusting in God and letting go of your worrying. Don’t worry, God’s got you. Do you trust God? So, why worry when you can let go and trust that everything will work out the way it’s supposed to? The way that God has intended it to work out. God has everything under control, He is God, after all. Remember that God works out everything for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).
God has everything under control, so there is no sense to worry about it. All you need to do is trust that God knows what he is doing. Allow Him to take care of you. When you feel anxious or stressed, take a step back and remember that God is in control. Try to relax and have faith that everything will work out according to His plan. Trusting in God can help reduce your stress and anxiety and give you a sense of peace.
Plus, worrying never really solved anything, did it? When you worry, you suffer twice. It only makes you feel worse and stressed out for no reason. So, the next time you start to worry, take a deep breath and remind yourself: that the most powerful being in the universe has you in the palm of His hand.

Today we are talking about how worrying shows a lack of trust in God, so let’s dive in. We have got a great message. Hopefully, whatever it is that you are going through in life, you can learn to trust God and really rely on Him.
I remember as kids in Sunday school or children’s church you get those little bracelets and they say F R O G. For those of you that know, that means Fully Rely On God, and it is a F R O G bracelet. Sometimes they were green, sometimes they even had a little frog on there, and really it helped you remember that in anything you do, you need to fully rely on God, and that is a really important point.
As kids with the bracelet, you just think the bracelet is cool, you maybe don’t remember, you don’t fully grasp that, but as adults that is something that you really need to internalize and then start to put into practice in your everyday life.
We have got a quote, it is a little saying and I really really like it so I hope you do too. When you worry and hurry through your day, life is like an unopened gift thrown away. How true is that? When you worry and hurry through your day, it is an unopened gift.
You are not enjoying all of the aspects of this world that God created. For what? For Him. He created us for Him, the world for us. So everything out here all over is for your enjoyment, take time and go through life and enjoy it. You need to fully rely on God.
Don’t worry about the little things and all of the stuff that is going on, whether it is work, school, life, your kids, money, all of that can be given to God. When you worry about things in your life, you are displaying a lack of trust in Him.
It is something where you think that you can make it better or you can do something or by thinking about it and worrying about it, you are going to have a change or an outcome on the situation. When you do that, it is displaying a lack of trust and a lack of faith in God.
How do we know this? Well, there is a spot in the New Testament where Jesus, after preaching to a bunch of crowds and feeding people and doing all the things He does, He says to His disciples or He just slips away, one of the two, I am sure there was a conversation, He said, ‘hey you guys go ahead, I will head back and I am going to pray.’
So He retires to a mountaintop and the disciples in the evening, they say, ‘All right let’s go.’ So they get in a boat and start going across the sea or the body of water, the lake, and they are out in the middle of the lake and straining, they are trying to get to the other side and the waves are against them.
So Jesus looks from where He was and He sees that, and He starts going to them, and He is walking on water and about dawn He reaches them, and the disciples say, ‘that it is a ghost’ and they are so scared. They don’t have faith, they are limited by their earthly understanding of everything that is going on.
This is in Matthew Chapter 14 Verses 22 to 32. If you have your Bibles, please turn there with me. It is a great verse, I thought about summarizing it, but I am going to read the whole thing because it is too good to skip. Verses 22 to 32 in Chapter 14; turn there if you have your Bible. If you don’t, that is okay. I am going to read the whole thing.
Also, the verses will be referenced in the description below, so whether you are on a podcast or on YouTube, check out the description and you can come back later and look up the verses. Then if you want to share them with other people or talk about them that would be great.
Because it is through repetition, through talking, through learning and really conversing, questioning that you really start to internalize this and then externalize it. Before you can externalize it you have to internalize it. So let’s start internalizing it. That is why it is important. If you don’t have your Bible right now, come back later with your Bible.
Let’s start, Matthew 14:22-32, “Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, and he dismissed the crowd.” So there was a conversation, Jesus dismissed the disciples or said, ‘Hey get out of here, I will take care of the crowd, you guys go.’
“After he had dismissed the crowd, he went up on the mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came he was there alone, but the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
During the fourth watch of the night” – So this would be about dawn – “Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. ‘It’s a ghost,’ they said and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: ‘Take courage! it is I. Don’t be afraid.’
‘Lord, if it’s you,’ Peter replied, ‘tell me to come to you on the water.’ ‘Come,’ he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and began to sink and cried out, ‘Lord save me!’ Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.
‘You of little faith,’ he said, ‘why did you doubt?’ When they climbed into the boat, the wind died down and those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, ‘Truly you are the son of God.’”
All right, what is the point of all this today? Right here, “Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. ‘You of little faith,’ he said, ‘why did you doubt?’” What happened? What is the moral of this story?
Well, Jesus is walking on water. Now, unless it is wintertime in Minnesota, and it is 20 degrees below zero, you normally cannot walk on water. You step on water, you go down, you sink and so when they saw Jesus walking on water they didn’t even put it together that this was something that He could do because you just can’t do it.
They lived over in the Middle East Israel area; it is hot. The water doesn’t freeze, so it is very very possible that they didn’t know about winter, and you could walk on water. I mean very rarely maybe it would get cold enough to freeze over there, but anyway in the desert and warm climate, ice and walking on water is not something they would have experienced on an every year annual basis for a whole winter like you do in the Upper Midwest or in other countries where it’s a frozen tundra.
So they didn’t know. This was unnatural; it was super unnatural for them and when it happened, this is crazy, so they thought it was a ghost they said. It was Jesus. They still doubted. Peter said, if it is really you Lord, Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come out there. Come on, it is me. Let’s go.
Peter gets out and is walking on the water – had to be an amazing feeling, like oh my goodness I can’t believe this. This is the best thing in my life. He saw the wind, he saw the waves, he got scared, started sinking. Lord save me and Jesus says, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”
Peter started worrying, life started coming at him, the wind and the waves and whatever was going on in that instance, ah my car broke down, I need to spend money, I am worried, I am afraid, I am scared. Stop you of little faith, why did you doubt? Jesus will take care of you. He will provide for you. Why did you doubt?
So they climbed into the boat, and then everyone said, “Truly you are the son of God.” Well, we know He is the son of God. He came here. He died for us. We have the Bible. We know He is the son of God. We have no reason to doubt.
When things happen in our life, we need to trust in Him. We have all of these stories, all of these examples; we don’t need to walk on water and sink and cry out and say, ‘Lord, save me.’ We can learn from other people’s experiences and then be so much further ahead than they were. We don’t need to go through this, we can learn from it and skip the trench.
We have a bridge to the other side. Use the bridge. “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7. He cares for you. If He knows what is going on in your life, God will provide you [with] everything you need as long as you let Him.
If you get out of the way and leave it up to God, not only will your life be much easier, stress-free, worry-free all of that, but it will go so much more smoothly. Now we just read from Matthew Chapter 14. Matthew Chapter 6 is a great chapter.
If you have your Bibles with you, you are going to follow along. If you don’t, come back and read the entire chapter. The entire Chapter of Matthew 6 is gold; the whole Bible is gold, but this is really good in your life right now. If you are struggling or worrying or there is stuff going on, the wind and the waves are starting to overpower you, and you need [to say,] ‘Lord Jesus, save me,’ read this Chapter. It will help.
Let’s go to Chapter 6 Verse 25, and we are going to read all the way through 34, so bear with me. It [has] some good verses and then we are going to come back and break each one down and finish up. So stay tuned for that.
Here we go, Verse 25, “I tell you do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all of his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—oh you of little faith?
“So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all of these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all of these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
What does all of this mean? Don’t worry. Peter worried; he started to sink. Jesus saved him, you of little faith, why did you doubt? What did Peter doubt? He doubted that God would be able to carry him through the stress and the fear of the situation of the wind and the waves and being on water. The supernatural, he doubted.
Now you go through something that is natural, clothing, food, money, shelter, we understand all of these things, it is not supernatural like walking on the water, these are simple things. We get it. Why would you doubt that God can provide that for you? Don’t doubt.
“Look at the birds, look at the lilies, not even Solomon in all of his splendor was clothed as beautifully as the flowers in the fields, the birds of the air they don’t sew, reap, toil, but your heavenly father provides for them.” God knows you need all this stuff, so don’t worry. Trust Him, fully rely on God, and it will be provided to you.
“Can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” The answer is no. In fact, by worrying you are probably taking more time away from your life. It is clinically shown that more stress is less life. Not only do you have a lesser quality of life because you are stressed and worried about everything, but it actually ruins and poisons our body.
The more stress you have, the less length of time you will live on this earth. Your body starts decaying from the inside out, your cells, your body, everything is stressed, it is overworked. Whether it is mental or physical, too much stress is not a good thing. So by worrying, you are not adding time to your life, you are probably taking it away. Kind of significant.
All right, Verse 34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” What does that mean? Each day is filled with trouble, you don’t even need to worry.
If you stayed in bed all day and had no trouble, there is so much other trouble going on outside, someone will be murdered, people die, people get sick, [and] wars could be started. All of this other trouble that is happening in the world, not even to mention the supernatural trouble, demons running rampant, fighting, taking hold of people, leading people astray. The world each day has enough trouble of its own, you don’t need to add to that trouble by worrying about it.
It is all going to happen whether you stay in bed all day or whether you get out there and live your life, so don’t worry. The bottom line is that you need to trust God. He will provide you with everything that you need. If you completely trust Him in 100 percent faith, everything will be provided for you. You of little faith, why did you doubt?
You have natural things that you need in this life. It is not like you are asking God and saying, ‘All right I am going to go walk on water to get to the other side of the lake, that would be supernatural.’ Now if you want to do that, I am sure you could, if God wanted you to do that.
Now God wants you to have food, clothing, [and] shelter. Does He want you to have so much clothing that you never wear it or so much food that it goes to waste or so much of a shelter that you have 20 empty rooms in your house? No, He will give you what you need. Maybe you want a mansion; you don’t need a mansion, so you can have all this empty house to clean.
You have empty rooms in your house, fill them up. Get some missionaries to come and stay in there and help others spread the Word. Invite some pastors to come and speak at your church and let them stay in your house, give them your extra food, [and] give them your extra room for however long it may be.
Start using what you have; God will give you more. You use and take care of what you have, God gives you more. Don’t worry about it, just start doing. There is a very popular saying, “Don’t think, just do,” and maybe it is not very popular, but it was very popular when I was growing up.
Grandmas and great-grandmas, anytime you are playing these complicated card games, canasta and hand, and foot and all of that, they would say, “Don’t think, just do.” Just do, just play, because they obviously wanted to get going. Those old ladies, they really play like crazy, and when you are learning, you got to think about everything in life. Don’t think, just do.
Trust God, don’t worry about it, as long as you are not going out there and doing sin or wrongdoing or taking advantage of others, just do. Do what God wants you to do. Don’t think about it. ‘Oh God, should I really give this money to the church, should I donate, should I? I might not be able to pay.’ Just do. God knows you need these things.
You start doing with what God has given you and He will give you more. Stop worrying about it. Worrying shows [a] lack of trust in God just like Peter. What will happen? You may begin to sink, stop sinking, start floating, get in the boat that God has given you, and don’t worry.
I hope that you take the time to read these verses. Also, I highly encourage you to listen to this or watch this again later on, preferably with some other people, and talk about it with them. It is through studying and teaching others and talking that you really begin to learn, and that is the goal here.
Our mission, our calling, not just Social Media Ministries but your calling as a Christian, is to internalize this information and then start externalizing it with other people around you. You need to use what God has given you, your talents, your life, your possessions, all of this for His glory. What is His glory? Bringing more people into the kingdom of heaven. I hope that you can start doing that.

If you are not a Christian, I really hope that this message has touched you, that you are not worrying so much about your life. If you want to learn more about how not to worry, trust in Jesus; He came here. He died for you. Put your hope and faith in Him, and your life will go so much better.
Let’s pray. Lord Jesus, thank you so much for this time here today. Thank you for this powerful message on how we need to really trust you. I ask that each and every person out there would start to fully rely on God.
That if they need to get one of those bracelets, that they would do it, and that whatever it is in their life, that they would remember to trust you. That they too would be able to walk through the storm and the wind and the waves and not doubt, that they wouldn’t sink but that they would stay above the waves and keep going forward.
Even if it is just these simple natural things, food, water, clothing, shelter, money, that you would provide that for them and that you would give them the courage and the desire to use those gifts and that stewardship, that they would have a great stewardship of the stuff that you give them in this world.
That they would start using it for your kingdom and your glory and that you would give them more. Remove the worry. Remove the fear. Remove the doubt. Allow them to truly cast all their anxiety on you because we know you care for us. Lord, I ask all of this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Thanks again for tuning in. Stay tuned. Come back next week for the conclusion. This is a two-part series on worrying and trusting in God. So stay tuned. Hit the bell icon. Hit the subscribe button. Come back next week and we will wrap this up for part two. God bless.
