Living in sin is living in separation from God. Being separated from God is a curse in and of itself. The Bible tells us that the wages of sin is death. This means that not only are we separated from God when we sin, but we also face physical and spiritual consequences. These consequences can be seen in both our personal lives and in the world around us.
One example of this is addiction. Addiction leads to all sorts of problems in our lives, including financial difficulties, relationship issues, and health problems. It can even lead to death.
So many people continue to live in sin because they don’t believe there is any other way out. There are also additional curses that have been carried down through generations based on the actions of certain individuals.
This is pretty serious. It means that if there is some type of sin that you struggle with, it could negatively affect your children and your children’s children. It is a generational sin and a generational curse. Break it!
How? With Jesus.
Jesus came into the world to offer us forgiveness and freedom from our sins (1 John 1:9). When we turn away from our sinful lifestyles and put our trust in Him, He will forgive us and help us overcome whatever struggles we may be facing—including addiction (Philippians 4:13).

Today we are talking about cursed generations, and you might stop me right off the bat and say, “No no, no one’s cursed anymore, Jesus died and He became our curse. Cursed is the man who was hung on a tree. Anyone who was hung on a tree—He became the curse. We are free of any of that now.” Well yes and no. Yes, we are free of that if we repent and ask for forgiveness. However, there are still things that can happen.
We have talked about this in a message before on how one would reap and the other sows. You can check that out in a card or navigate to our YouTube channel and find that. One reaps and the other sows. What we talked about was how if you are struggling with some type of a sin, your sin can harm other people, and so that is what we call it. Sin harms others and it is not only in a direct way but also in indirect ways.
If there is something you are struggling with—you can’t seem to conquer—you are sowing evil and someone else could be reaping the consequences of that evil. Future generations, your children, your spouse, your family—someone else could be reaping the consequences, harvesting problems because of the sin you are sowing. So keep that in mind. Check out that message, it is a great one.
Let’s go to John 4:37 to get started, with a little support from John 4:37. All these references will be noted in the description below so you can check them out later. “‘One sows and another reaps’ is true.” That is it, “‘One sows and another reaps’ is true.” That is what Jesus said. That is His words. Now I encourage you to read more before that and after that because it is a great saying and a great story by Jesus.
But one sows and the other reaps. So if you are sowing sin, someone else could be reaping those negative consequences. You need to repent and ask God to help you conquer that sinful desire or you will be placing a curse upon those around you and that is not good. Yes, if you repent and ask for forgiveness Jesus became that curse, [and] it will go away. You will not be cursed forever or your generations will not be cursed forever.
But if there is something going on—there are things like generational sins—maybe in your family, it is something like complaining or maybe it is something like stealing or gossip or some type of a sexual sin or lust or addiction. That is a very big generational sin—addiction. Whether it is alcohol or drugs or something like that, those are generational sins. Also generational curses.
How do you break them? Repent. Ask God for help and be the person in your family that stops that curse. The generational sin stops with you. Don’t let your kids deal with it. Don’t pass it down. Whatever it is, it stops today. Stop that generational curse for your family. Do them a favor and whatever it is you are struggling with, seek help.
Comment below and just say, “Pray for me” and we will pray that it stops with you. Whatever it is. We don’t need to know. If you want to share that is great, but we don’t need to know. Comment below and we will pray that it stops today in Jesus’ name.
In your life, that generational sin will not be carried to your kids, [it] will not pass down through your family line. It stops today. That foothold, that bondage, that demon or the enemy has over you ends today. In Jesus’ name.
Here are a few examples of generations of people, races, and humanity that were cursed for years. Cursed for years. Here is a people group cursed by the sin of sexual immorality. Leviticus 18:6, “No one is to approach any close relative for sexual relations. I am the LORD Yahweh.” No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. There are tons of people groups who have been cursed as a result of that.
Let’s navigate to Genesis to see one story of this. Genesis 9:20-25. Now if you are familiar with Genesis, you know where I am going with this. This is just after the world was reborn, Noah and his sons came off the ark. Genesis 9:20-25, I am going to read it for you right now.
“Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded to plant a vineyard. When he drank some of the wine, he became drunk”—So that was Noah’s sin; he became drunk. That’s not good. It is fine to drink but to become drunk is not good, “and lay uncovered inside his tent.
“Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father’s nakedness and told his two brothers outside. But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it across their shoulders; then walked in backward and covered their father’s nakedness. Their faces were turned the other way so that they would not see their father’s nakedness.
“When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him”—So it was more than simply seeing him. He did something to him. “He said, ‘Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of the slaves will he be to his brothers.’ He also said, ‘Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem. May God extend the territory of Japheth; may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be his slave.’”
So what happened there? Well, Noah became drunk. That was a sin. Then as a consequence of his sin, something happened to him, and his youngest son, Ham, did something to him. Then what did Noah do?
He didn’t say cursed be Ham, he said cursed be Canaan, Ham’s son. One reaps, the other sows. Generational curse. For what? To be slaves of Shem and of Japheth. They were cursed for generations because of that one act. Don’t do that to your family.
Let’s go on, what else? Lot’s daughters. They approached a close relative and had sexual relations. They went to their father, first [night] one daughter then another night the other daughter. Genesis 19:32. Let’s go for a little support.
You say, “What is he talking about? Why would this happen?” Yeah, it happened and why would God put it in the Bible? He put it in the Bible to show us what happens to families or to generations or to people lines that do this. To show us that this isn’t a light-hearted matter.
Right after Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed, Verse 32 says, “Let’s get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father.” Continuing on, “That night they got their father drunk, the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of when she lay down or when she got up.”
The next day, the younger daughter did the same. You can read the whole story there to get a little bit more idea of what happened. But let’s break it down as to what that act did. Okay, so they both got pregnant by their father.
As a result, their descendants who were the Moabites and the Ammonites. They both worshipped false gods. For generations, they were always at war with Israel and they always had problems. They were at war. They were cast out. They were slaves. They were always conquered—taken over. They were cursed. They were cursed.
How do we know that it was the Moabites and the Ammonites? Well, we are going to go to verse 36. I am going to read all the way from 36. “So both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father. The older daughter had a son and she named him Moab, he is the father of the Moabites of today. The younger daughter also had a son, she named him Benammi and he is the father of the Ammonites of today.” They are cursed—cursed generations because of that one act.
Let’s continue on. Do you need more proof? Abraham was married to Sarah previously, and then to Sarah, he committed adultery with Hagar, although he did it with Sarah’s permission because Sarah said, “I can’t have a child. Why don’t you have a child with my servant Hagar?”
Let’s go to Genesis 16, 3 and 4. Well, we will start at Verse 2 and back it up a little bit. “So she said to Abraham, ‘The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my maidservant; perhaps I can build a family through her.’
“Abraham agreed to what Sarai had said. So after Abraham had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian maidservant Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife. He slept with Hagar, and she conceived.”
All right, what happened? Well, she bore a son named Ishmael, and Ishmael was cursed and his generations were cursed. He was to be a wild donkey among men. His descendants—the Muslims—they were cursed to be against everyone.
Genesis 16:12 says, “He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone’s hand against him, he will live in hostility toward all his brothers.” His generational line are cursed to live in hostility to everyone else. Perhaps that is some of the problems today with that religion. The Muslims are always seeming to have trouble.
There are several more examples throughout the Old Testament of sexual impurity. One of Jacob’s sons did something, another instance. One of Jacob’s sons Reuben had sexual relations with one of Jacob’s wives, so not his direct mother but another wife, so not really [a] relation to him but it was still his father’s wife.
Then another instance: later on, Judah, another one of Jacob’s sons, had a problem where he was giving his sons to be married to someone but then they kept dying. So he said, “I will give my third son to you,” but then he holds them back and the lady Tamar says, “This isn’t right.”
So she dresses up as a prostitute and then Judah ends up sleeping with her, hiring a prostitute. Through that sin she tricked him. Later on, she was going to be executed and she said, “Nope, here,” and she fortunately had proof. Then he says, “You are a better person than I.” Then everything works out. You can check that story out in Genesis 38.
There are many many many more stories. Samson—he ended up being led to his death through sexual impurity. So if you have something specifically today, I guess we are going through cursed generations and sexual sin.
If you have something like that, that is pulling down your life, that has a foothold on you, or if you are the product of sexual impurity, or if you have done that and you have future generations that you have created through that, then you need to seek forgiveness and break that curse so that it does not continue with your family line.
Break that curse. Stop the sin. Break the curse and start living a good life. Throughout the Bible, the descendants of those who sin against God are in for a rough life. We have gone through about six examples here, and their proof that they have been at odds against everyone and we see this even still today. The descendants of Canaan, the descendants of Ishmael, the Moabites, the Ammonites—they have all been at odds with people.
Look at how America, the White people, took slaves from those other countries. They brought people over here from northern Africa. From there they took the Black people and those of colored skin, whether it was different shades, whether it was Asians—wherever they grabbed them—they took people from those areas of the world and made them slaves.
Those generations have been cursed for many many generations. Not just way back in the Old Testament but those curses carried through all the way because they didn’t repent. They didn’t accept Jesus as their Savior.
They didn’t change their ways and so their generations continued to be cursed. That sin continued throughout their line. Many cultures today are descendants of these areas. They still live like that. They have multiple wives. They have open relationships. They are living in that impurity.
So if there is something in your life that is impure, make it pure. Cast it out. Get rid of it. If you need prayer, comment below. This is very very important. Set your family up for success, not for failure. Remove this curse. Let Jesus conquer it once and for all. He already paid the price. All you have to do is ask and it will be done for you.
Let’s pray. Lord Jesus thank You so much for this message and the realization that our sin really can cause a lot of problems, in not only our lives but the lives of those we love. You say one reaps and another sows. If you are reaping sin someone else could be sowing that.
Lord, thank You for making that aware to us. For bringing it into the light. We know that eventually everything will be made known, and all sin, whether it is hidden or not, will be exposed. Lord, I ask that anyone out there who is struggling, that they wouldn’t wait for that day, that they would stop it now.
That they would have the desire to stop it today. That they would ask and pray to You. That they would call out to You and that You would hear them, Lord. That they would comment below and ask for prayer or message us or somehow connect with us and ask for prayer and that that would just be abolished and ended.
That if they have noticed that there is a generational curse in their family, whether it is some type of a sin-nature that continues to be passed down, something simple like complaining or gossip or negative emotion or depression or some type of a mental illness that keeps being carried down through their family line or anything like that, that is all a curse, it is a generational curse, Lord I ask that they would have that will and that desire to break that curse today. In Jesus’ name.
That if there is some type of a sexual impurity going on, as we have seen, we know that that produces generational curses. That the Bible has a lot of evidence and that has even carried through today in our modern world, slavery, and other issues as a result of those generational curses.
Lord, I ask that they would repent and that they would change their ways and that You would heal their land, which is their people group, their being, and that they would begin to live for You.
And that those generational sins and curses would end today so that they would sow goodness and that those around them would reap goodness as well. That they would begin to sow Jesus and that those around them would begin to reap the benefits, the fruit of a life with You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Once again, thank you for being here today. Wow, this is a good message that has a lot of support for it. So if there is anything, anything going on in your life, addiction, or some type of something that you can’t seem to shake, please please comment below. Say, “Pray for me.” Get some help. Talk to someone. It is time to break that bondage. In Jesus’ name. God bless.
